It walks the ice age world with sea levels 120 metres lower, the Younger Dryas cold snap and the impact hypothesis, the drowned landscapes of Doggerland, Sundaland, Beringia and the Persian Gulf basin, Gobekli Tepe, the invention of farming, the first cities, and the collapses at 1200 BCE, in the Maya lowlands, in the Indus, and in Rome. It then tests the flood myths, Plato's Atlantis, Lemuria and Mu, and asks via the Silurian hypothesis what any civilization would actually leave in the rock. The narrator's own answer to his title is no: there is no ledger of six, no 12,000 year clock, and the real lesson is that inheritance is not preservation.
