2:21:34The Missing 100,000 Years: What Humans Did BEFORE Civilization | History for Sleep
A two hour and twenty minute narrated documentary built on one ratio: modern humans have existed for over 300,000 years, and written history covers the last 5,000. It walks the missing span in order, from the Jebel Irhoud skulls that pushed our species' origin back by more than 100,000 years, through a planet that held at least five human species at once, through a forager life of three to five hour workdays and better teeth than the farmers who followed, into Chauvet and Lascaux, out across 90 km ocean crossings that had to be planned, and into the flower graves, red ochre and 20 ton pillars of Göbekli Tepe. It ends with agriculture as a late plot twist that made people shorter, sicker and busier and won anyway because surplus makes more babies. Honest about what the evidence cannot say, since wood rots, hide decays and the coastlines where most people lived are now under 400 ft of seawater.
