The entire Epic of Gilgamesh told end to end in one sitting, narrated by the actor David Rintoul. It opens with the archaeology: Austen Henry Layard tunneling into a mound on the Tigris in 1849 and hitting the buried library of Ashurbanipal, and the self taught engraver George Smith reading a flood story off those tablets in 1872 that predates Genesis by two thousand years. Then the poem itself, in the video's eight parts: the tyrant king of Uruk, the wild man Enkidu pinched from clay to stop him, the friendship that reforms them both, Humbaba in the cedar forest, the humiliation of Ishtar and the Bull of Heaven, the death sentence handed down in the divine assembly, and the long walk to the edge of the world to ask the one immortal man how he did it. The answer is no, and what Gilgamesh brings home instead is the walls of his own city.
